Read the following paragraph and cross out TWO irrelevant sentences.

Mexican historians view Lorenzo De Zavala (1788-1836) with mixed emotions. Zavala’s experience in Europe and the US had not prepared him for the prejudices against foreigners then prevalent among many Anglo-Texans. Some praise his efforts to create a republic in Mexico and to improve the conditions of the lower classes. However, most see him as a traitor because he signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. In their eyes, his act led to tiie dismembering of the nation—the loss of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and a portion of Colorado by the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that ended the war between Mexico and the United States. Only in his native Yucatan, known for its independent course in relation to the other Mexican states, is he considered a hero. In modem-day Texas, there is a county and a city named for him, as well as many schools and public buildings including the Texas State Archives and Library Building in Austin.
